Flemington High School opened in temporary accommodation in 1964. Towards the end of 1966 the new school building was ready, located on Epsom Road between Flemington Racecourse and the Showgrounds. Enrolments reached 900 by 1969, yet had declined markedly by the early 1990s. The State Government determined that either Flemington Secondary College (name change 1990) or Debney Park Secondary was to be closed, with comparative land values sealing the deal. The school was closed at the end of 1992 and sold ($1.2m) to become the headquarters of Harness Racing Victoria.
