State School 1406 opened in 1874 on the corner of Punt Road and Wellington Parade. The following year saw enrolments increase to over 1,000. The Charles Webb designed school was ‘temporarily closed’ in 1986. Then in 1992 it was closed altogether and the heritage listed building was converted to prestige apartments.
